Our drama class at Dance Center and School of Performing Arts is an introduction into the world of theatre. Students will learn skills like Improvisation, Character Development,  Scene Work, Theatre Knowledge through means of fun exercises and theatre games. Students will be able to showcase what they have learned in productions performed at our Little Black Box Theatre located at the Dance Center. This class provides a safe environment for students to be creative and express their imagination. Class is held every Thursday from 4:30-5:45 pm and is taught by the very talented Neena McLain and Katy Truluck Baronich.


Neena McLain has worked both professionally and in theatre education for over 20 years.  She served as the Artistic and Executive Director for Playmakers of Baton Rouge for ten years before moving into theatre education.  Neena began her educational career as the talented drama teacher for 1st-12th grades in the Zachary Community School district. After several years in Zachary, Neena moved to Runnels School in Baton Rouge.  At Runnels Neena taught 4th-6th grade drama before moving into the Chair of Theatre position. As the chair, she taught 7th-12th grade theatre and was also responsible for managing a full season of shows. Neena is an actor and director who has done numerous plays, radio commercials and industrial training videos, she has also directed for Ascension Community Theatre, Theatre Baton Rouge and Playmakers.  Neena has worked as a storyteller for Louisiana Endowment for the Arts, Prime Time for Reading Program. She is a founder and managing partner for Third Wheel Theatre, a theatre dedicated to providing theatre opportunities to young actors.  Neena holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from McMurry University and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from Louisiana State University. She is also a proud mom to son, Brandon and daughter, Kate.


Katy Truluck Baronich 

                                  


Mrs. Baronich is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with  concentration in Theatre. She has been involved in many stage productions and has vast experience in Acting, Stage Management and Lighting Design.  She has traveled abroad to the UK twice where she took master classes at the world renowned Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Katy has managed and/or directed several large productions at both Southeastern Louisiana University and the Dance Center and School of Performing Arts. Mrs. Baronich is currently working on her Master's Degree in Theater Production.
